The “Living Line, Living Legacy” calligraphy exhibition, curated in collaboration with the Reed Society for the Sacred Arts (RSSA), showcases the works of the renowned Mohamed Zakariya and other prominent calligraphers from the United States and Europe. Coming from different paths and backgrounds, they are linked by the deep love they have discovered in this ancient art form.”

This exhibition was on public display from April 11th to June 17th, 2022. 

QAIC is pleased to sponsor the Alif Ba Park exhibition, co-produced by Qatar Foundation and the National Children’s Museum in honor of the 2021 Year of Culture between the United States and Qatar. This interactive experience is aimed towards introducing young audiences to the Arabic alphabet and language through touch and sound. The exhibition will travel to Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green KY, and Al Bustan Seeds for Culture, Philadelphia PA before concluding at QAIC’s headquarters in Washington DC summer of 2022. 

This exhibition was on display at WKU through May 20, and on display at Al Bustan Seeds for Cultural though July 10, 2020.  

The Cultural Fusion exhibition commemorates the Qatar-USA 2021 Year of Culture.  The exhibition began in Core Studio 2 at VCUarts Qatar, and is comprised of the artwork of eight graphic design students. The premise was to explore the ongoing relations between the United States and Qatar through design. The project allowed a variety of creative freedom, and the result was a multitude of diverse outcomes with both serious and playful approaches, eight of which are on display in this exhibition. 

Ruwad (“pioneers” in Arabic) is a collective exhibition of established and up-and-coming Qatar-based artists whose works are contributing to a transformation in the creative landscape of the region. Spanning many diverse forms of creative expression, Ruwad presents a group of visionary minds from Qatar whose work inspires and promotes the cultural richness of the region. The 2021-2022 Ruwad exhibition marks the first collaboration between the al markhiya gallery in Doha, Qatar, and QAIC. al markhiya is the oldest privately owned gallery presenting emerging and established artists from the Arab world in their two gallery spaces located at the Doha Fire Station and the Katara Art Center.

As part of Qatar – USA 2021 Year of Culture program, the Light & Shadow: A visual journey through Oregon Exhibition presents the work of two photographers, Andrew Studer and Khalifa Al-Misnad, during their ten-day journey photographing the landscapes of the Pacific Northwest. While embarking on the journey as strangers, Studer and Al-Misnad quickly bonded through their shared love of photography and nature. The pair endured early mornings, strenuous hikes, and inclement weather, as they ventured over Mount Hood, the Cascades, the Three Sisters, as well as up and down the Oregon coast. The result of their journey is a series of photographs that not only serve as documentation of the natural wonders in the Pacific Northwest but also as individual perspectives meeting to appreciate the present moment.

The pandemic has impacted the livelihoods of women around the world. Although they have always faced challenges in balancing life, work, and all that is in between, the pandemic has required many women to make difficult trade-offs and great sacrifices. Through this exhibition, “Women of the Pandemic,” QAIC is partnering with Katara to reflect on how women have confronted the realities of life in a pandemic. “Women of the Pandemic” features Qatari and American female artists whose creative voices have carried on in spite of the COVID-19 chaos around them.

The Qatar America Institute for Culture (QAIC) is excited to announce the opening of the first exhibition in its new headquarters: “Transcendent Text: Exploring Universal Values Through Islamic Calligraphy,” in partnership with the National Human Rights Committee in Qatar. This 20-piece exhibit features the work of renowned Master Calligrapher and Sculptor, Sabah Arbilli, whose vibrant and vastly-technical paintings perfectly merge the beauty of color and expression with the sacred art of Islamic calligraphy.

On May 8, 2018, the Qatar America Institute for Culture, in partnership with Reconnecting Arts, hosted the premiere for the exhibition “Ruwad: the pioneering contemporary arts of Qatar” in downtown Washington, DC. Ruwad, “pioneers” in Arabic, is a collection of both established and up-and-coming Qatar-based artists that are transforming the artistic landscape in the region. From painting to photography to installation pieces, Ruwad presents the leading visionary minds of Qatar whose creative works continue to inspire and promote the cultural richness of the region.
