FOCI 2021: Celebrating World Photo Day and the “Road to Reopening”

Over the past few months, some parts of the world have slowly been reopening amid the fight against COVID-19. While this reopening has established a sense of normalcy after the chaos of the last year and a half, it has also highlighted the profound societal changes that have occurred since March 2020. As we enter a new “status quo,” how have communities emerged from the upheaval of the pandemic? 

Prior to World Photo Day on August 19th, QAIC announced a call for submissions as part of its FOCI photography initiative. The theme for submissions, “Road to Reopening,” aimed to draw attention to local communities as they adapt to current events. As World Photo Day celebrates photographers and their ability to share their experiences with the world, this theme was particularly fitting to show different perspectives on the journey to reopening.
