Pop-Up Exhibition Funded by the US State Department in Qatar Museum’s M7

In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the United States and Qatar, the US Embassy in Qatar and State Department funded a pop-up exhibition, Across Borders: Textile Heritage, designed by American fashion designer Lauren Michelle Morell. The exhibition aims to raise awareness of the environmental impacts of fast fashion and pay homage to indigenous American textile and sustainable Qatari Bedouin traditions through cross-cultural garments. On display in M7 until September 17, the exhibition showcases innovative approaches to preserving traditional and sustainable practices, highlighting Qatari sadu weaving and indigenous American patterns. Alongside the exhibition, a short documentary about Sadu traditions was also produced in collaboration with Heenat Salma Farm and Caravane Earth.

Raised as a third culture kid with Latin roots, Lauren Michelle Morell created her own fashion label LorenaaMichelle in 2019. Her unique designs infuse both Middle Eastern culture with urban Latin fusion.
